Drawing – All levels

Drawing classes will begin with exploring the various tools and techniques of drawing and its mediums. Charcoal, pencil, variety of paper, and a vast array of techniques will be utilized as we reference drawings by various artists and explore expression in drawing.

If you are already familiar with these techniques, being reminded of the vast variety and modes of expression in drawing will serve to stimulate, and will not take time away from your own work with my feedback to explore further.

If you are a Beginning student, you will feel comfortable working at your own pace. As the class progresses, students will be encouraged to push their self expression and exploration using the drawing processes, with lots of individual feedback from the instructor and critique.

Your choice of subject matter is open, and I will aid in supplying choices or helping you find materials for such choices as: Abstract, Landscape, Portraiture, Still Life, Interiors, Life Drawing, or “Other” as each student wishes.

Painting – All levels

This class will explore the materials, mediums, and fundamentals of painting, as well as the concepts and content of expression for each student’s own individual level.

If you are a beginner, you will feel comfortable. If you are more advanced, or even an accomplished painter, you will  feel comfortable but also be challenged in progress of your work and development of style as an artist. I will address each student’s level individually.

My goal is to further your skills at whatever your level, and to achieve higher levels. As your instructor, I am accomplished and experienced in working with a variety of levels in the same class. Exposure to other students and varied degrees of accomplishment makes for a more interesting class, and is often surprisingly helpful!

Students are encouraged to work in the medium of their choice. All students will receive lots of individual attention. We’ll explore color theory, composition, techniques, and a variety of subject matter as well as personal expression and development. It will be a fun filled class with tons of info and inspiration!

If you are “Continuing to Paint”- Exploring painting at the level beyond beginning painting, with emphasis on technique, tricks of the trade, how to create illusions of depth, and more sophistication of color theory, composition, and self exploration of expression using whatever subject matter the artist/student chooses to study with the expert feedback and individual attention of the instructor. Your choice of subject matter may include: Abstract, Landscape, Portraiture, Still Life, Interiors, or “Other.”

We will reference Art History and works of master artists from my rather extensive library of references as needed, and for fun!

Weekend and Evening Classes – Creativity with Painting, Drawing

These potentially large group workshops will focus on a broad spectrum of making your own unique artwork through drawing and painting mediums. We’ll start off with a few brief 5 minute  lesson on the fundamentals of each, but quickly transition into each student choosing their subject matter and completing several of their own unique works of art by each Sessions end! Drawing or painting, range of subjects and mediums, even copying some of the master’s works for a project or two, and exploring your choice of subject matter, such as landscape, interiors, still life, portraiture, or abstract. All a possibility for exploration. It will be structured for learning, but open to your ideas on whatever it is you specifically would like to learn to do, or do better!
